Many people believe that social networking sites such as Facebook have critical disadvantages in both individuals and society. Social networking sites, for instance Facebook, are thought to have had detrimental impact on individual people as well as society and local communities. However, I believe that these social network tools have many advantages individual. On the other hand, I agree that they have some damaging impact on local communities, leading to critical issues.
Advantages of social network
With regards to individuals, online social media has great advantages for each individual person. Firstly, people from different countries are brought together through such sites as Facebook whereas people rarely had no chance to meet or communicate with anyone outside of their immediate circle or community before development of technology and social networking sites.
Thanks to social media tools, we can see how they are doing well with photos and message. Direct communication is possible if we desire. Some people may not see each other forever in their life due to geographical distance. However, those social media will link friendship forever. Secondly, Facebook also has social groups which offer chance to meet or participate some communities which can share common interests.
Disadvantages of social network
On the other hand, Facebook and other social networking tools may have disadvantages in local community. One of the advantages of local community is for face-to-face direct meeting. Since local community usually consist of people who live in same area, the people within local communities will no longer be forming close or supportive relationships. This is serious issues in local community.
Another possible concern/issue is privacy issues. It’s said that some information in social network tools such as Facebook are used for marketing activities. You need to take some actions to protect your privacy. Also, careful action should be required when you update group photos. Some people are allowed to be tagged in the photo; others are not.
Nowadays, we can customize privacy range of to what extend we share our post officially or privately. However, before tagging someone, you should confirm it. Otherwise, this sense may jump to serious issues in your relationship.
Conclusion
Although social networking sites have brought individuals closer, they still have some challenges to solve some issues such as privacy issue, security issue and communication stye in local community. On the other hand, communication style has been changing especially after COVID-19 pandemic. We should acknowledge both the advantages and disadvantages and introduce suitable ones to our life.
